Where I stayed
X'Cacel Beach & Don Cafeto
It pays to get to know the locals of the towns you visit! We met a nice German/ Dutch couple who have been living in Akumal "Land of Sea Turtles" for about 26 years. They gave us a recommendation that totally rocked! Here it is!
Most of the beaches in the Riviera Maya have been taken away by big resorts or mega ecoparks. Entrance to these places usually run you $100 per person to get in. We ended up finding a beach that the locals love called X'Cacel. It's about a 5 minute drive south of Akumal. (if you get to Xelha you've gone to far) White sandy beaches, Clear as glass water, a beautiful cenote tucked in the jungle. Beautiful! and the price? $1 per person kids were half that.
This beach has many Euros on it.which equates to partial nudity. Don't worry I'm a never nude so the girls never did make an appearance! LOL...There is also a reef with much calmer waters on the edge of the beach. Here you will see schools and schools of the most beautiful fish!
After swimming and hiking with our Dora and Diego we decided to go for a late lunch. We drove down to Tulum which is 20 minutes from the beach. Guess where we ate? At my favorite restaurant that I have been dreaming about for an entire year...Don Cafeto. TOO YUMMY for words! We ordered the cheese, bacon and chorizo dish with tortillas (a fav among the Wilsons and Imossi' Familys) and of course a never ending meal!
Adios Amigos, that's it for now! Click on video below to watch Julia and Thomas enjoying their day on the beach. (Sorry for yesterdays video we couldn't edit the end...hahaha)
