Awww, back in Akumal tonight and catching up with all my blogs. It was so great to be welcomed home to waves crashing ashore, turtles popping up their heads and a big place! Love it here. Especially, after being in Cruise ship mania.

When I'm in Playa del Carmen I always wonder whats that glitzy world with all the lights doing on the other side. Their lights taunting me ...I had to see. Just had to...well...
We began our travel on Thursday where we took a passenger ferry from Play Del Carmen. The seas were rough that day and a two year old boy ( not tommy) threw up next to me. Having said that, this boat was lovely- air conditioned, fully stocked bar, comfortable seating.---you can't ask for better. We arrived to the glamour. At least I thought.

The town was preparing for Carnaval which is the second biggest in the Yucatan next to Merida. They had the most beautiful sparkly sea creatures at every corner when you arrive. We were also welcomed to drunk middle age cruise ship passengers who were willing to spend every last dime at Senor Frogs. Gross. We walked to the hotel and to my surprise the hotel was very clean, colorful, and quiet. After we got settled we asked the young bartender where we should go to take a quick dip with the kids. He recommended Hotel Barracuda. He said there was sand for the kids, you could walk there, snorkel there, and a swimming pool. Wow - we thought great advice.

hahaha. When we walkied into Barracuda fists were pumping and my son thought he found his new home. He joined all the rowdy twenty year olds in dance moves and flirtations. The music pumped through his veins but unfortunately for the rest of the family this was a complete nightmare. We were the only family at a Jersey Shore Reality Show episode.  Oh boy. Tired we walked back and decided  that we would join all the cruise ship knuckleheads in some fun. We took lame ass pics of the family at the senor frogs that we passed by.

The next day things started to picked up. We rented a VW bug and cruised around the eastern and southern part of Cozumel. Away from Cruise ships we spent most of the day at one of the best looking beaches, Punta Sur. However, Shane was the only one who went in due to strong currents. We decided to leave midday and continue cruising the island. Beautiful. Really.

On the third day- we wanted the kids to have some fun. So we decided to go to Chakanaab. Wow! What a great place for families. It is cheesy but awesome. I guess the Mayan Gods heard our woes and they granted us a cruise ship free day. All cruise ships were cancelled that day. We had the entire park to ourselves! That would be like closing disney and saying have fun. We did. We had a private sea lion show... SInce I was the only female willing audience member I got to hug a male sea lion. We had a private dolphin tour. We  got to use the lagoon  and the sea all to ourselves. I even swam out (far!) to see the Jesus Christ and virgin Mary Statue. Amazing!  We had the swimming pool as well.  We walked through the gardens and not one human.Loved it! We completed our evening by walking in the town square and stumbled upon a local only Jazz/Salsa band.Locals dancing, Some vactioners having fun and us. We danced for several hours and finally left...

Bottom line is... Go on a snorkel tour.(we didn't have a chance) but beware! Try to Avoid Cruise ships. Sundays they are not there and Enjoy! Happy travels everyone!
