DAY 30 … Tuesday, April 10th … Scenic Cruising Bosporus Strait & the Dardanelles
DAY 31 … Wednesday, April 11th … Piraeus (Athens), Greece
DAY32 ... Thursday, April 12th … Piraeus (Athens), Greece
Up to now we have been heading East ……… now we’ve made the ‘turn’ and are heading West, and chasing the sun. Coincidently it is also the halfway point of the trip. So we retraced our ‘steps’ across the Black Sea, into the Bosporus, a reprise of Istanbul without stopping and through the Dardanelles just in time to see the war memorials at Gallipoli before dusk.
Then it was on to another history lesson … Athens.
Everyone knows about the Greek Debt Crisis and the city did not disappoint … there was astrike. It was great for us as there was ‘relatively’ no traffic so we used the ‘hop-on hop-off’ bus and toured the city. Saw all the requisite sights and then headed back to Piraeus. What a surprise Piraeus is … we had been before but just got a taxi from the port and headed for Athens. This time we took the time to walk around the bays and enjoy the ambience of the place … it was a real treat.
