Day 18 PEI
We're sitting around the campfire in PEI with our Edmonton friends John and
Kelty; Rob and Rachel and their families.
We're staying at the PEI National Park, just about a 3
minute walk from the beach. The
jellyfish are here as well, but we've realized that they are safe to
handle. Apparently, a human hand has
tough skin so our hands aren't sensitive to their sting. We arrived at our campsite around 4 pm, just ahead of our friends, set up and went to play
at the beach until about 7 pm. It was about 29 degrees today and nice and
clear, so a great beach day.
This morning we had a short drive to the Alexander Graham Bell National
Historic Site. We ended up spending almost an hour and a half there it was such a neat site. On our way out of the town of Baddeck, we spotted a "Bean
There Coffee House" - very similar to our company, 'Bean There Roasting
Company', so we had to quickly stop.
Day 19
We started the day by meeting our friends at 9 am at the Anne of
Green Gables National Historic Site. While we know the basic story of Anne, our
friend KF has read ALL of the books by
Lucy Maud Montgomery, so she was able to fill in lots of the story line at the
site. We took a hike in the "Haunted
Wood" and down "Lover's Lane", some of the famous places from the Anne of Green
Gables Books.
From there we parted ways and after another fresh baguette and cheese and
fresh strawberry lunch, we went exploring on the west side of the island. The kids choice was a Haunted House-theyenjoyed this over-priced attraction and mom at least enjoyed the nice garden attached to it. We also drove and visited the PEI Potato Museum at O'Leary, climbed
to the top of West Point Lighthouse and swam on its beach, and toured the
"bottle houses" at Cap Egmont.
We had to rush this last stop because we were meeting up with our
friends at 6:30 for a lobster feast at the New Glasgow Lobster
Dinner. This multiple course, all you can eat meal had the following courses:
fresh dinner rolls; pails full of mussels, soup/chowder, a salad course, the
entrée (which was not an all you can eat serving), topped off by all you can
eat dessert (12 choices) and coffee. The
kids especially enjoyed their multiple, multiple servings of soup and chowder.
By the time the feast ended, it was time to come home and shower and go
to bed.
Day 20
We started with a pancakes, bacon and eggs breakfast with our Alberta friends and then were at the "Sandspit" amusement park by the time it opened at 10:00 to help celebrate our friend C's 13th birthday. The kids rode the roller coaster and other rides like crazy for almost 3 straight hours before we headed out to explore. We picked up a few goodies in North Rustic and joined our friends the F's for lunch on the beach. The kids again enjoyed getting their feet wet and played in a little tidal pool that was nice and warm.
We're in the oil change range and thought that Charlottetown, a fairly big center, might do the trick. Turns out, no Mr. Lube, no Express Lube, and the Canadian Tire and Goodyear had at least a two hour wait. So, no oil change today; went to a nice Sobey's and got all of the groceries we weren't able to find in the little grocery marts we've stopped at lately. We also stopped at the Gouda Cheeselady shop and PEI Preserves on some of the roads along the way. PEI is like a spider-web of roads.... A few main ones, and lots of intersecting inland ones so you can always have new scenery.
We had another feast for supper as we met again with our friends. Supper specialties included oysters, shrimp, bbq ribs, trout, gouda cheese, and bakery birthday cake for dessert
Ki's thoughts: My favorite thing about today was the roller coster at
the amusement park.Lunch at the beach was fun too.
(We're actually sitting in a Mr. Lube now on Day 23 and I have an
internet connection so I'm going to upload this.... We'll see if the pictures
work.)

You guys look like you are having a great time. I'm really jealous about the fact that you are enjoying all that seafood. Enjoy PEI!
