I'm getting dizzy with all our newly found daytime activity. Keen to keep up the momentum of yesterday we headed to Townsville's other main attraction, Reef HQ. An aquarium based around the Great Barrier Reef, the brochure and tourist board proclaimed its brilliance and raised our expectations to an unattainable level. While the coral, fish and sharks were for a short period interesting enough, we all imagined something on a grander scale and an hour after entering, we were looking for something else to do to occupy us.
Fortunately next door to Reef HQ was an IMAX cinema and after walking past one in London on countless occasions we finally entered one. The short film was a documentary about the reef and we shared different views about its and IMAX's merits. I enjoyed the effects of watching something that nearly surrounded you although the film didn't utilise its full potential. On the negative side it was 22 years old and my limited knowledge of "Don't touch the coral" seemed to outstrip that of the marine biologists in the film. Others enjoyed it less and Rachael even fely motion-sick.
Although less interesting than yesterday, it still felt good to get out and do something. We even managed a deli-dinner for lunch - the most frequently mentioned meal whenever Kirsty and I have had a 'what I'd really like to eat now is....' discussion during our stay in Asia.
