Day 129 - Fremantle - Perth

Our first night ever in a YHA lived up to our rock bottom expectations. Although clean and cheap, they are miserable places to stay. Doors locked at 10pm and all common area lights off between 11pm and 6am. Given that the bathrooms are common areas, life is not easy during the night when you've had a few drinks. They are also inhabited by some of the weirdest and solitude-seeking people on the planet. Not that I'm jumping to conclusions though!

A brief meander aound Fremantle and we drove back to Perth to prepare for departure tomorrow. We haven't done Western Australia justice at all but the lure of meeting up with friends from home on the East Coast is too appealing to pass up. A great last night out did something to ease our guilt. We met up with Gilly (whom me met in Malaysia) and her friend Yellie, to visit some of the bars in the Northbridge area of town. After managing to avoid Asia'a favourite evening entertainment for the duration of our time there, within a few days of arriving in Australia we frequented a karaoke bar. I was just about the only person in the place not to sing and thankfully most people didn't take themselves to seriously. Just as well. Kirsty, Gilly and Yellie performed embarrassing renditions of Fame and some Wham song but recovered it somewhat with a more than passable effort at Hotel California - a song that haunted us throughout Asia.
