Day 122 - 123 - Sanur

After practically being laid up in bed yesterday with a good dose of the squits (a beautiful departure present from Asia), today's activity (or lack of it) was less dependant on the location of the nearest lavatory. ur feelings changed a bit today towards getting itchy feet and we had one of those conversations we're never likely to have again in our lifetime:

Kirsty, 'Do you fancy going to Australia a bit earlier than planned?'
Me, 'Yeah, why not? Let's go tomorrow.'

And so after a couple of phone calls and a visit to the local Qantas office, we're flying to Australia late tomorrow night. It's kind of screwed up a few things we wanted to do here and in hindsight I wish we'd either seen more of Sumatra or made concrete plans to visit another island but when else are we going to get a chance to be this impulsive?

In addition to successfully wishing away our last few days in Asia, for which I feel guilty, we've seen one of the reasons why Bali became so popular in the first place. It appears one particularly large, expensive and ugly hotel has acquired possibly the most idyllic stretch of beach we've seen this trip. After walking through the reception unchallenged we were on a long and wide expanse of pale sand looking at the kind of scene which should and undoubtedly would make everyone at home very jealous.

Day 124 - Sanur/Ubud

With our flight out of Asia coming in the early hours of tomorrow morning, we ventured to the 'culture capital' of Bali - Ubud. While it was pleasant enough for a few hours, I'd soon be bored staying.

My negativity about Bali is probably a bit harsh (I haven't been impressed but Kirsty has loved it) and I think it's largely down to the fact that my subconscious has known that we're nearing the end of a chapter of this trip. Asia has been brilliant and I'm concerned Australia could be anti-climatic. It's obviously got different things going for it and I need to change my minset in order to enjoy them. The thoughts of meeting up with friends and being able to drink wine are just two of the things that should help.
