Where I stayed
Today was the second day of our Mandarin tour and it was once again a 'wow' day - and it had nothing to do with the insightful commentary that our tour guide was providing. The passing scenery made me wonder even more why people aren't flocking to this beautiful country to explore it more fully. It truly is a spectacular country with an incredible native culture and entangled history. The tour that we were on was meant to all us to explore the surrounding area of Hualien county and the history. The first stop on the tour was Mi San Ctu Dao, also known as the Rice Road. This road has been used as mean to connect the county with the port and had been in use from 1880. We got the opportunity to walk up this hill and experience what it was like to transport supplies - it was in a word, grueling. The area was beautiful and the experience gave me a better appreciation for the hardship that was experienced to establish this country. We were then off to Lin Tian Shan (Wood Farm Mountain) where we viewed the art that had been sculpted by the local people. We were then spirited off 'Dream Lake' and finally to Koi Lake. All of these places, have made me want to explore this beautiful country a little bit more.
We travelled back to Taipei by train that evening and met up with friends for dinner. The girls travelled to Shilin market by MRT by ourselves and finally back to the hotel for a celebratory ice cream / burger.
Though I can only end this entry with the line that probably summarized the day - 'The computer says No'
