I slept quite well on the train despite sharing the bed with my luggages and the constant snoring of the fellow passengers. Woke up at around 630am and just enjoyed the view of the sunrise as the train cut across rice fields after rice fields somewhere in Kedah and Perlis. The morning atmosphere at this part of the country looked so refreshing and peaceful. It was so different from a typical morning in KL, where you are usually forced to breathe in car fumes and spend hours in the traffic.

Finally arrived at Padang Besar, the last station in Malaysia where we had to disembark and went through the immigration. There was nothing there except a small cafeteria. After 45 minutes, we all went back on board and off we go to Thailand!

The train arrived in Hat Yai at around 930am and I went straight to buy my shuttle ticket to Phuket. The shuttle bus was about 4km away from the train station and I took the Tuk Tuk to get there. I was charged THB 150, which probably a rip off but I just wanted to get out of there ASAP. The language barrier was worse than I imagined. When I ask for directions and get my huge map out, most of the times the locals just gather around and chit chatting amongst themselves leaving me confused. I'm Malay and I look the same as Thai and they just start talking to me in Thai until I give them a puzzled look, then they would stop and giggle away.

The Tuk Tuk was pretty nice, but only if it's not crowded at the back. Finally I was on the shuttle to Phuket at around 1030am. The shuttle took about 6 hours and cost THB 360. We stopped a few times along the way to eat and the food was awesome!

Got the motorcycle as soon as I got there and went straight to my host's place in Chalong. After almost 24 hours of travelling, I slept like a baby.
