We are compiling all our Ontario Travels in one blog.

The first 10 days in Ontario were spent with family and friends in London and the Greater Toronto Area.  It was a nice relaxing time, out of the van and with lots of good home-made meals. Whatever weight I had lost in the last 2 months was back on again within the first week of wonderful Indian food and curries. The van got serviced with new tires and fine- tuning in preparation for the trip westward.

Both Rajiv and I did not feel motivated at all to get back on the road again after the 10 days. This was further compounded by the grey, wet weather as we headed out of Mississauga on September 30th. But back on the road we got - off to Tobermory. Stayed the night there and took the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry the next day to Manitoulin Island. We made a few stops along the way on the island, before making camp just outside the town of Little Current. It didnīt take long for us to get back in theĻtravelling groove.Ļ

Our next stop was Sault Ste Marie, where we took the train to Agawa Canyon. Rajiv, being the train buff, had wanted to do this for the last couple of years. The weather co-operated, and the fall colours were spectacular on the way and in the canyon. The ride itself was a little long and somewhat tedious - approximately 4 hours each way, in non-descript and tired rail cars. We both agreed that the Wakefield Steam train near Ottawa was more enjoyable.

The landscape in Northern Ontario as we drove to Thunder Bay, with Lake Superior and the Canadian Shield hugging highway 17, was spectacular.  Our stay at Lake Superior Provincial Park campground had some unexpected visitors. A very tame fox that we eventually had to shoo away and a family of 5 beavers that arrived just before sunset, on the lake by our campsite. The beavers collected twigs and busily worked away at building their dam. These Ļuninvited guests" made for a memorable stay at the camp ground.

We are making our way to Winnipeg. The van is booked for an oil change there. Our deadlines and destinations revolve around van servicing, since we have learned that such appointments have to booked in advance because mechanics who know Westys are in demand.

Tonight we are camped just outside Sioux Narrows, Ontario, about 3 hours away from Winnipeg. Itīs a private camp ground surrounded by trailers and boats - not too appealing at all. But we are tired and given the season, we are not sure what else might be open at this time of the year so we canīt afford to be too fussy..... AND there is a family of deer resident in the campground. Apparently they have been around for about 10 years, so their presence somewhat makes-up for the messy trailer park-type atmosphere.

Fantastic pics
Wow- the pgotographs are becoming increasingly enchanting. I might ask you in the future if I can print some of them to show my students the breathtaking landscape of Canada. Have you thought of making this trip blog into a book. I know there are many places out there that create hardcover and soft cover editions of peoples blogs. I haven't tried yet but want to print out my blog so I can give a copy to each boy when they are older.
Thanks for the family pics- it has been a long time since I have seen everyone.

The West Awaits
Hi Balbir & Rajiv! I'm afraid I've been remiss in keeping up with your travels because of work but I've finally taken a few moments to catch up on your wonderful tour thus far - looks like you're having a fabulous time. Really looking forward to seeing you but I guess it won't be before we head off on our own travels to Mexico. I'll be back in town on November 16th and hope to see you soon after that. Love Patty

Travels to the West
Hi Patty,

Looks like our paths are not going to cross on this trip. We should arrive in Vancouver last week of October and have flights booked out of Vancouver to Japan/Singapore on November 9th. Perhaps we´ll see you next year on our travels back to Ottawa or another time. Enjoy Mexico - at least it´ll be warm. We are in Regina today and it´s a high of 5 degrees....brrr...

Say hello to Ken and Dylan.

love,Balbir
