My second stop was Ottawa and was there a couple of days. I wanted to visit the capital of Canada to see what it was like compared to the other capitals I have been too. Firstly it was a definite change in pace from Montreal, a much quieter and laid back city. It was also a lot colder with the temp going down to 0 Celsiuses so the T-shirts were put away and out came the thermals.
As far as tourist attractions there weren't many so spent most of the two days walking around the central area. I went to parliament hill which is based on our house of commons and there I saw some war memorials, went up the peace tower and sat in on a debate. It was about the recession and who was to blame; Yawn. There were some more hippies protesting about something, I was hoping to see a Mountie beat them all up but alas this was not meant to be. Walked around the market area (where I ate some beaver tail; pastry with hazelnut on top), the shopping centre and across a bridge back to Quebec to get a great view of parliament hill.
The hostel is a converted jail and being the start of spring and not mosttouristity place to go there wasn't many people at the hostel and to say it was creepy was an understatement. Met my swiss friend there and as he didn't speak lots of English we used google translator; technology is awesome. PING!!!
There were plenty of museums so if you like that maybe worth spending 2 days there but other than that maybe a day trip from Montreal just to see the capital. Probably was there a day extra but allowed me to catchup on my sleep after Montreal and knowing my next stop....
