The main reason for this trip was for Vik to meet his family. We managed to find our way to and through Frankfurt airport, only to find our flight delayed. The walk to Gate 42 was at least two kilometres! Eventually we took off, and after 80 minutes landed to a very wet Krakow.Jola and Darek were there waiting for us, and there were tears, hugs and kisses all round! Jola had a beautiful bouquet of lily of the valley and a cute Polish doll for us.

We then had a very wet drive to Kielce, about two hours away. Jola's son, Martin had lent his car for us to be picked up. Poland seems to be on the edge of the major system which has flooded Croatia. Better weather is forecast for the week ahead.

Kielce is a town of around 200,000 people and is surrounded by mountains. It is about halfway between Krakow and Warsaw. We found the Apartmenty Promenada, which is in a block of newly built apartments. We have a delightful Studio apartment, complete with cooktop, fridge and sink. It is located pretty close to the town centre and lovely parks.

Unfortunately Vik's aunt Maria was in hospital for tests, so we didn't get to meet her straightaway. However, Jola had prepared a feast of Gołąbki, (stuffed cabbage rolls) and perogi.Uncle Bronek joined us, and soon the room was full of fast talking Poles! Fortunately Martin turned up, and I was able to converse with him, as he had spent six months in London.

After a good night's sleep, we woke to even more rain, and a fast running canal next to us.Jola picked us up, and we went back to her place for the meeting with Aunt Maria. Once again, lots of hugs and kisses followed! Vik had lugged a family photo album with us on our travels, so the afternoon was spent poring over this.

As it was obvious Aunt Maria was tiring, we left her to rest. We went for a short drive to gain a perspective of how Kielce is spread out. It was then time for a  visit a shopping centre, similar to Marion. Jola led us straight to her favourite shoe store, and we were amazed to find great shoes for around $20AUD for me, and  $40 for Vik. After all that we headed back to the apartment and found a fantastic restaurant  for dinner. The meal with drinks for three of us was around $55AUD!

It has been wonderful for Vik to reconnect with family, and to hear tales of his father as a young man. He has certainly remembered all his Polish language, and he fits in so well that it is often necessary for me to do a double take to find the Port Adelaide fanatic Australian!
