Vernal Falls magnifies the power of water. White torrents of water sweep and tumble down the granite canyon. With heads cast down to negotiate the wet granite steps along the canyon wall their seems to be a reverence about Brandon, Michelle, and myself. The fall's mist fills the canyon. Our faces are glowing from the rigorous hike. Wind generated by the cascading water blasts cold and wet causing an involuntary inhale and the strong sensation of being suddently present. We follow the puddles on the trail through a crag in the wet wall and now face more directly at the falls. The sight of falling water pulls my eyes from top to bottom, from top to bottom following whirling sections before crashing on the rocks below. Continuing our climb to the top the mist intensifies to a shower. Our clothes are now drenched and the afternoon sun in late June balances out the cold dowsing with warmth on our backs. All of our senses are being saturated with the roaring sound, invigorating temperatures, earthen sweet smell, and the vertigo inducing site of moving water. Vernal Falls seems surreal.
