This weekend was a beachy way to roll into my last year of my twenties. I spent my birthday weekend in Buzios which is the weekend destination for Cariocas (people from Rio De Janeiro). Buzios is an area blessed with a dozen or so beaches and islands that surround a peninsula that shoots out into the Atlantic. Being mid-November the water is on the warm side of cool with an emerald green color. Many quaint streets with shops, restaurants, and trendy spots are lined along the cobblestone streets. Being a holiday weekend for Independence celebration the place is packed. Even with scattered showers during a couple of evening the streets are packed with Brazilians. Being Brazilian they canīt help but blast samba music and dance all about the place. Being blessed with little samba experience I choose to watch and feel awkward. Not to worry though because a cover band of American classic rock was playing, so I headed that way after a bit and sang horribly along.
During the day Josy, my gracious host, and I would head off to the surfing beach. The waves were fun sandy beach break. I would catch ten waves and go in to warm up, relax, and head back out. This would happen three times. While on the beach I did have some interesting `conversations`with some of the ice cream and empanada vendors. One old guy was asking my opinion on which nationality was more beautiful, the Americans or Brazilians. This is obviously impossible to answer because both countries are very diverse with many gorgeous women of all races and creeds. However, I answered Brazilian because I knew where this `conversation`was going. I was then lectured on the proper girl attracting calls and phrases for Brazilian beauties. Itīs amazing how little words you need to speak to have a `conversation`. They say 80 percent of all communication is body language. This `conversation` was upwards of 99 percent.
The weather was great most of the time. The days were full of boating, swimming, surfing, and dozing off on beaches. The evenings were full of music and breaking my hip trying to samba. I I could have only made the weekend better if my friends and family back home were here to experience it all with me.

last of the twenties
You make it sound like the 20's are a really good thing to leave behind. Yah, there are times I wish that I could return to that time and be as wise as now, but actually, the next few decades aren't so bad though. Marriage, family building, career climbing, world events off the charts: they are all good probably - go ahead, look forward. But you have had a remarkable 3rd decade and 11 months and 26 days are left. Just be safe and know we wish really hard that we could be there with you. Dad

From Mom
Just read your blog on this album. Are you ever fearful? Your experiences sound full of adventure and noise and color with quiet respite on the beaches. Wishing you a glorious year. We would love to share some of your experiences that involve the rural quiet areas. Big stadiums sound scary.
