I love to be in mountains. My limbs are still strong enough to trek and climb atop a hill to enjoy the grandeur of the panoramic view of a verdant valley stretched across the terraced fields rippling in chilly autumn air where a singing stream lazily flows, gleams in the sun all day long and turns molten gold towards evening as sun begins to dips behind the hill. They beckon me and I keenly wait for the day to be in their company.
For a long time I have been looking forward to a window of opportunity to travel in Ladakh region. This land of snows and stark mountains in the silence of the solitude always fascinated me and has a special place in my heart. As luck would have it one evening when fragrance of the spring is beginning to spread in the air, my daughter casually mentioned about her friend in Ladakh who has invited her to plan a visit there. I immediately jumped into the nascent idea and began working on it to fruition. To my delight all of us were as keen to avail of the opportunity. In short time we got into flurry of activities, passed on e-mails, collected information about Ladakh from internet, books, journals and friends, prepared notes and in the process I felt as if I am vertually roaming in the calm airs of Ladakh. We prepared plans and fixed dates, gathered necessary equipment, packed, booked train and air passage and finally left for Delhi by night train on 12th June 2009. Reached Delhi in the morning of 13th and all of us gathered here for our onward journey to Leh by air the following morning.
