The rains have finally arrived and dropped the temperature quite nicely for us. With the rain comes a whole host of new creatures emerging from the ground. There are these little red velvety spiders everywhere. I counted 50 in a 5m square area. They are literally fluoro red, and the velvety stuff on them hides their legs, so they just look like little red pom poms running around everywhere. What kind of creator comes up with such creatures?!

The grasshoppers are changing from brown to green to match the grass, and there are chongololos everywhere. They are like a giant milipede, as fat as your thumb.

A couple of days ago, we had a glut of tortoises, Kaila heaven! First one of the cubs was walking around with a bulge in his cheeks, and a tortoise foot hanging out the side of his mouth, it was pretty hilarious once I realised he hadn't managed to hurt the tort. Same day the scouts found 2 on their walks, and we picked one up beside the road on the way home.

Last friday we all got together and went bush to test the rifles. The boys taught a couple of us to shoot the 375, I was so chuffed when I hit the target first time. We had an all out bludgey afternoon, taking a time out from the cubs and running around the bush like idiots. Fridays dung fights were even bigger and better than normal. Elephant dung, impala, kudu, whatever you can get your hands on, it flies.
