Three trains today. One from Zurich to Chur, which left wel before dawn at 6.37am to the grumpy disgust of the children. It was still, dark, but we we well inot the mountains at Chur. Some coffee and hot chocolate later, we boarded out narrow guage scenic Bernina Expres, with hlass windows to the ceiling, for a ride up to 2,400 feet anove sea level, over high aqiaducts and through narrow tunnels as we wound our way up to .....then back down to Tirano in the north of Italy.
The video is for Rob. I hope he can open it. We have a couple more to show him when we return. It is hard to pick the most spectacular parts of the trip. The combination of tunnels and bridges as we climbed. The trees weighed under snow. Ice covered lakes. Stone castles suspended on cliffs. My photos cannot do it all justice. The video is better. We passed down hill skiers nesr the turn of to St Moritz, cros country skiers traversing beside us, families pulling young children up hills in wooden sleds.
Our day ended with our first real hiccup. When I booked the Hotel inMilan for our stopover, at 3am or whatever time I was up booking things, I booked for three people. People, always check your confirmation details before booking with booking.com . A bit crankymaking and expensive. To add to that we caught a taxi, it was raining after all, only to find the hotel was just up the road! It was raining I suppose......
