Had a good night's sleep as there was a cool sea breeze wafting over the tent. After packing up the camp we headed to Eceabat to catch the ferry to Cannakale. On the ferry I got into conversation with a turkish lawyer. He was on summer recess and on the way to his holiday home for two months. He had been a soldier in Korea. He had also visited London in the sixties where he bought records by Petula Clarke, Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdink. He seemed quite proud of these.
Made our way to the roman ruins of Pergamon at Bergama. I had seen them before, but they were worth a second look, especially the amphitheatre built into the hillside.
We are now in a campsite on the outskirts of the town. It has a swimming pool and is one of the cleanest we've been to. As I write there is a big party happening around the pool to celebrate a young boy's circumcision. I haven't spotted which is the unfortunate lad in question. Earlier some women from the party came over to the truck with some tasty doughnuty things for us. They currently have a live band playing turkish ballads.
