Where I stayed
Spent all day driving to Krakow-mainly through Slovakia. Very poor looking country. Is quite sad. Is kinda what you imagined the old Eastern Europe to be like and what you hoped it still wasn't. Ended up in the hills near a ski resort for lunch-the ski resort is a real contrast-very flash. The ski resort area (Tatra mountains?) is very pretty. Stopped off at a town with traditional wooden buildings which was cool but can't remember it's name. They have cool haystacks on wooden frames in Slovakia. Whereas in Slovenia they dry hay on racks, their frames are more in the shape of a hut.
Tonight we went to a traditional Polish dinner with traditional music and Polka dancing. Was a fantastic meal of sausage, stuffed eggshells, a kind of pasta stuffed with meat and others with cabbage, cabbage leaf stuffed with meat and a plum cake for dessert. Yummy! Oh and plenty of alcohol! (They aren't stingy!).
The dancing was awesome (and the singing). Almost had a Russian-ish type familiarity-especially when the guys do that crouching thing where they kick their legs out and also when they swing the girls around. Also reminded me of folk dancing at school. Remember the days? Hehe.
Was a very cool evening.
