On the 17 March we left Lima and arrived Arequipa, the 2nd biggest
city in Peru. It is more than 2000m high above the sea, so people from outside often
get altitude sickness. When our airplane arrived in Arequipa airport, I
was first caught by the magnificient view of the Mt. Misti, the active
volcano and the simbol of the creator god. In the meantime I thought I was
going to faint, the difference was so obvious.
Upon arrival, we met the tour company people who
took us to the hotel. They adviced us to stay tranquil, as it is
very important for us to get used to the altitude. If one had got really sick,
we would have to give up much of our holiday. So our first activity in Arequipa was a nap.
When we woke up, it was close to lunchtime so we started walking, to look for an ideal place to have a nice one. We finally came across a nice local restaurant. And they had nice meals for great prices. But the amount was ... massive, each plate was like the creator-god's mountain with so much food. And we were still getting used to the altitude - our stomachs were not working as good as in Lima. So we had to leave much of the food we ordered. Damnit, if I had known it, we would have orderd just a single plate.
