Thirty minutes on a boat, twenty on a bus, and a precarious walk across a decaying bridge and we were inCosta Rica. Twenty more minutes in the back of a jeep and we were back by our friend the sea in Puerto Viejo.
Although the sea is less beautiful, with a rocky bottom and discoloured sand, the town itself has a lot more character with lots of local families enjoying beach life, although it must be said that Costa Rica has its fair share of loud sunburnt Americans too.
On arriving, we split into two, with Claire and Alban going to a small quiet hostel, and Daisy, Ronnie and I opting for Rocking J's, every stoner's paradise, set right on the beach with murals and mosaics galore. We are back to hammock dwelling too...
Once we had settled in, we rented bikes and peddled our way back to the other two, an ice cold beer in hand. We had a quick lunch, during which I managed to satisfy, in part, my macaroni cheese cravings- instant pots have no match on the Tony Griffin special. After a few hours by the sea, Ronnie, Daisy and I went for an explore on our bikes, finding lots of happy looking people, brightly coloured flowers and beaches. We reunited for all you can eat sushi- I gave that restaurant a run for its wasabi!- and a few drinks at Mangos before clambering into our hammocks.
This morning I have spent an idyllic few hours perched on a wooden chair at the water's edge reading and writing, waiting for the others to surface so we can make our way to the capital.
