Again we started reasonably early to avoid crowds, heat and give us time to enjoy the sights we choose.
On the way to Dubrovnik, you cant not mention the Bay of Kotor - the only fjord outside of Norway that I know of. It is possible to drive all the way around the bay, perhaps visit Kotor or you can use the ferry to take you across the few hundred meters at the mouth of the bay.
If you are coming from south and suddenly find many cars standing on the road - this is the ferry line. Took as a good 30-40 minutes to get on the ferry and a few to get across.
The border was quick and easy, thou the guards are arrogant. The drive between two check-points is a good few kilometers - I already started to wonder wether there will be another check. The road continues at the coast and between the mountains all the way north. A very nice ride, road is in good condition.
The main characteristic of Dubrovnik - it is Crowded. It took us a good 15 minutes to drive down from highway to the centre and another to find a parking place - draw a lucky straw. Got a place just next to the oldtown.
The old-town is all you can read in every guidebook. Compact, very well preserved and restored. Ofcourse, during the summer there will be a zillion other visitors, so I wouldnt recommend the place for staying the nights. All this hassle, lines and crowds can get tiresome if you have to fight them every day.
Do take a walk alongside the outer wall of the oldtown at the harbour. Lovely boats, great waves on the far side.
