Soo we headed North today to Roxboro. We ended up 5 minutes away from lake Hyco and where I hunt. For birds today, pretty slow, I think we had 4 or 5 total today and nothing to unusual for the other focus species. Of course the day of forget my video camera I see one of the biggest turkeys I have seen all year. This big tom must of had a 12 inch plus beard and weighed over 20lbs. At first glance I thought it was a big black dog running across the field.
Today was a test run for Shannon to bring his dog General to South Carolina with us. He passed with flying colors. General is a big block headed black lab with a mellow demeanor. He rode fine in truck, mainly just slept and was well behaved when we got out. Looks like we will be having a riding buddy when we go back down to South Carolina
I did not meet anyone today but Shannon did. One of our points is down some side ride in front of a dumpster. It was nothing to exciting from what he told me. The typical "Whatch ya'll doing". Everyone is pretty relaxed once we tell them we are doing a quail survey. Take note, if your confronted by someone out in the country just tell them your doing a quail count and you will make a friend.
Tomorrow we go West to High Point. This is the farthest West we survey so it should be interesting to see the dynamic this year between the coastal plain and the piedmont.
Until the morning that all I've got, post your questions, comments, concerns, rants, or general opinions b e l o w.
