I competed in the Amoeba Race. In this race, five people on each team had to all hold on to a rope and then complete a short course. First, there was a long table we had to go under, then there were two trash barrels with the ends cut off and stuck together to crawl through. There was a long board on some cinder blocks we went under, then another tube and another table. Finally, we ran around a cone at the other end and did it all over again on the way back. It was a tournament-style competition, so we competed three time, beating the HR team for the silver but finally losing to Engineering for the gold.
There were other games, like an obstacle course, a giant puzzle to put together and a giant maze the team had to solve with a softball by tilting it back and forth, like one of those children's toys writ large. I was only there part of the time, as I had work at 3 p.m., but from what I hear F&B didn't fare too poorly, but we didn't win either. Ah well.
All in all, it was a fun event with a ton of people. We got to hang out with our coworkers in a fun setting, rather than at work, and as I said, free food. Really, really good free food. The staff shirts I designed were on sale there, too. They put them on a dark red and a dark green, darker than I originally had them, and I liked the way it worked. I got one for free. There were also humorous shirts for each department ("Who pooped in the park? Engineering knows!" And for Food and Beverage: "That's how we roll" on the front and "We know you like our buns" on the back) that we all got for free. I had a good time.
