After getting to Christchurch, I had four days before I planned on leaving, so I had plenty of time to kill. I spent my days in similar fashion: I would get coffee in the morning (always from a different coffee shop) and wander around for a bit drinking it; I would sit in a park or the Botanical Gardens or Cathedral Square or elsewhere and read for a while; I would go to the library to get on the Internet for free; I would explore parts of the city I had not seen before. In other words, I just lived as part of Christchurch for a while, sitting and walking and talking and watching and breathing. It was incredibly relaxing.

There's not much more to say about the days I was in Christchurch. I read a lot, on an average of a book a day: I read "The Plague" by Albert Camus, "The Woman in the Dark" by Dashiell Hammett, "Dreamcatcher" by Stephen King, "The Client" by John Grisham and "Brother Odd" by Dean Koontz (I had started "The Plague" before I got there and finished "Dreamcatcher" the day after I left). I'm really enjoying how much time I'm getting to read: even if I have a day full of activities, since I don't have anything to do at night I can still read at least an hour or to, and often I have more time than that, especially on days when I'm travling long distances and in the car or on a train for several hours. I've read about 20 books since I've been in New Zealand. I normally just carry around two at a time and switch them out at hostels' book exchanges. It's pretty nice having a wide slection of books I haven't read pretty much wherever I go.

Anyway, today I flew up to Aukland (and boy, are my arms tired), where I'll be for about three days. Then ... well, I'll leave that until the time comes.
