We traveled from Metz to Nancy France in the morning and did a quick tour of the nice old areas of the city- Stanislaus Square was very impressive with it's gold trim, nice fountains and Arc De Triumphe.

Further into the old town we found the Cathedral, some more churches and the old city gates- very nice and accessible.

On the way to Riquewihr in the Alsace Wine region, we stopped at a beautiful little village called Kayserberg- located in the hills before the wine region, many nice bistros and brasseries along the main street We stopped at a Creperie and had wonderful Blinae stuffed with Jambon (ham), Gruyere cheese and Ouef (egg) French is spoken here!!! Being in the "deep provinces" many people only speak French, so we have to use our little- bonjour, merci, au revoir, and of course the language of the €!

Traveling to Riquewihr, there are so many vinyards- as far as the eye can see!

We arrived in Riquewihr shortly after and found our hotel (1608 on the left of the picture) to be very nice and we even got a loft in the room! Alsace is a famous White Wine region of France and we definitely went on search and testing/tasting many at different "degustation places", we purchased some 15 bottles to give to friends here in Europe and drink like water!

Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir, Muscat and Riesling wines are abundant and a at very reasonable prices (6 to 12 €- in Canada, it is not reserve wine and is way more expensive- you can't get the local "good stuff" at home!!)

We had a wonderful meal in our hotel le Sarment d'Or (see the menu) of cooked Goose Live Foie Gras and special Marillo Mushrooms and Chicken. The meal was completed with a fabulous Crème brûlée. The video shows the restaurant before the downpour..

When we made our way to the room, it was absolutely pouring rain- just as bad as in Liege the other day! Water was coming from the roof and all over the floor in the lobby- a disaster for the owner/chef (the internet service here doesn't work although there is a good signal and everyone is running around trying to collect the rainwater...) The sleep was very poor overnight as there is a once every half hour gong that goes off in the gate tower next to our hotel. The closer it gets to the morning the more gongs it makes on the hour!
