Arrived at 11:50pm and Val was arriving at 11:30pm at the Int'l airport. Hoped in a taxi to the Int'l airport and waited...we connected at 01:00, so grabbed a cab and off we go to Khaosan Road to meet up with Erik and Somchai. I saw them before they saw me!!!! Well what a wonderful sight that was. Haven't seen them in over 2 years!!! HUGE hugs...introduced them to Val and away we went to check in. I only had a carry on so popped back downstairs and Val washed up after flying all day/night.

We hung out on Khaosan and had several beers and caught up with one another. Val opted for Red Bull cocktail. Thai police came down the road around 3:00 to close things down, but we managed to grab a couple more (thanks to Somchai) and visit until 5:30...my oh my waaay past my bedtime, but what an Amazing night!!!

Fell asleep right away, but my good ole internal clock got me up a mere two hours later and then had a heck of a time sleeping. Next day = hangover and I didn't have That much the night before. Obviously more of a lightweight than I thought. Oh well, that's life.

Got mobile around noon and decided to go for a walk, but thought it might be best to stick close to the home base (Val's body was adjusting). Had an afternoon nap then connected backup with the guys at 5:30.

This next stage was a great adventure....started with walking to the water taxi and hoped on that which saved 1.5 hours in crazy traffic. Boat ride didn't sit very well with Val unfortunately, but our stop was perfect timing. Then onto the train - above ground subway. The guys took us out for dinner and we had a great time. Following dinner, down to the subway and headed to the guys hotel so they could change in prep for Vertigo bar.

OK, so let me tell you a bit about Vertigo. No casual dress, nor flip flops. It's located on the roof of a hotel which I'm guessing was 5 star from everything I could see. Elevator to the 59th floor and walk up to 60th which was a fancy schmancy restaurant and then up another floor to the bar. This was rooftop alright and I have a 'slight' fear of heights!!!!! It's completely open air and the walls aren't walls, but rather 4 foot railings with plexiglass. Yeppers, I could feel my heart pounding out of my fucking chest, but perservered!!! It was a combo dining/bar area and walking to the bar itself was a bit nerve wrecking.

While we were enjoying a beverage fireworks were going off and we all noticed that we were actually above them and were looking slightly down at them. Holy crapola...surreal. Managed to sit myself next to the wanna be wall but had an iron grip on the railing. I'm pretty sure I've left a permanent indentation on it. My souvenier to Bangkok hah.

Had a long island iced tea and that lasted the entire night! Ahhhhh, stretching it out. Was pretty bagged, so we called it a night just after midnight and realized 'holy shit, it's Christmas now'. Hugs all around and we grabbed a meter taxi. Slept like a baby this night and didn't get up until 9:30!

Next step, back to Phuket, Patong Beach....traffic here is a nightmare and it took us over an hour to get to the airport.
