January 15, 2008

Ahh, another beautiful sunny day on Patong Beach. Today was going to be a full day with a trip to James Bond Island and the Monkey Temple. Looking forward to some kayaking (even though the guides do all the work). The waters are just something else. The islands popping out of the water are just so funky. Checking out the caves while kayaking and the mangroves along the various water ways were neat. It was a scorcher outside but we all bathed in sunblock before heading out. The long tail ride was great throughout all the waterways.

We pit stopped at James Bond Island for a bit and hung out. Also stopped into this village where they have a bunch of piers for lunch. A great thai lunch that we all enjoyed. We walked around the village for a bit and checked out the lifestyles there. We have so much in our lives and appreciate everything. These folks have very little, but are happier than can be. What a great life lesson.

The long tail boat ride back afterwards had a bunch of tired tourists and the chat was minimal at best. We had one more stop and that was at the Monkey Temple. Monkey's everywhere roaming wherever they wanted. No cages to house them. You could buy peanuts and banana's and feed them. I'm guessing there were around 50 of them. Likely a lot more, but hard to say.

The van ride home following that was even quieter. What a good long day, but tiring being on the water and in the hot sun. So much to take in as well.

We got back in time to have a quick rinse off and a cocktail before heading out to the FantaSea show. Mary & Laura walked into our room all decked out in short skirts, high heels and tops with bells a ringing on them. Oh yeah, they were also donning mullets. We laughed our arses off! Frickin funny!!! We watched them as they headed downstairs to Komma next door and the laughter that erupted was priceless!! Quickly finished our beverages and off to the show.

This show had a total of 17 elephants on stage at one point. There were acrobatics in high wires, chickens, goats, water buffalo and a tiger in the show. It was a real great Vegas style show with a deomonstration of the lifestyle of Thailand. Well done and we all enjoyed. The costumes were very detailed and just beautiful.

When we got back to the hotel Sherry, myself, Laura and Mary headed up to Ban Laimai to listen to some live music. The rest of the gang was there and we discovered it was Jim's birthday. Had some muscles and garlic bread, plus a few cocktails. Ended the night with a glass of red wine. Ended up walking back with Rey & Vi. Chris was at the tattoo parlour for about 5 hours, so was feeling his shoulder. Grace & Chris were right behind us, but pit stopped for a bite to eat.

I'm sure we were all asleep before our heads hit the pillow. Another very, very, very long day, but fun filled without a doubt.

Today was a well deserved beach day. Mary, Laura, Grace, Chris, Rey and Vi were all heading back this afternoon, so we wanted to hang out on the beach with them before they headed out. Got some rays and read and thoroughly enjoyed napping on the beach. The water was like bath water today. By far, the warmest it's been. Had a farewell beverage and saw them all off. Took a group shot before they headed out. Sherry, Steve and Marlene made it back just in time to say goodbye, having shopped and arranging a dive. Great Timing!

Afterwards, we just vegged a bit more on the beach, then went up to the room for happy hour before heading out to pay for the dive. Marlene and I were just going to snorkel, while Steve and Sherry were diving. Tamara and I sat outside at a little sidewalk bar while they got all fitted and sort out inside the dive shop. Then everyone came out for beverages before we headed for a bite to eat.

Ended up back a the Little Hut restaurant and had some water buffalo steaks. Were they ever good. Veggies were so good too. Ended up introducing Steve and Marlene to Jasmine and hung out there for two. Steve, Marlene, Co and Kent all headed back and Sherry & I stayed for one more, then accompanied Tamara to her room so she could change and head out to Ming's for a night cap. We got her all sorted out and headed home ourselves knowing full well 7:30 was going to come around early and it was a bit late.

Sure enough 07:30 was early all right. Had a piece of toast, lots of juice and a couple coffee's before the van came to pick us up. The boat ride out was just great. It was cloudy and we were very, very grateful for that!!! That only lasted for a couple hours. Sure enough out came the sun, but thankfully there were still a few clouds.

Our first stop Marlene and I went snorkeling while the others went for their dives. All went well and we all saw a lot of fish. Sherry did really well with her breathing having used the least amount of oxygen out of the whole group, including the dive master. Like she said "pays to not smoke". The whole group had a blast with their dives and saw great marine life. Smiles all around. Had some good visits with other guests on the boat as well.

I was able to finish off my book and noticing I still have a bit of sea legs while writing this blog. When we arrived back close to the main pier, the dark clouds were just low and looked quite ominous. The wind picked up just as we were docking, then the rain started, coming down pretty hard as we got on the bus. By the time we got to our van, it was raining pretty good. By the time we got back to the hotel it had pretty much stopped. Another great day had by all...
