January 6-8, 2008

Well we are so glad to be back in Phuket. It's sunny and hot, which is what we expected. Noticed a fair amount of development on our drive from the airport to Patong Beach. The familiarity was really welcoming.

Checked into our rooms and wow, are they ever nice. Sherry & I lucked out again. But it is our honeymoon after all. Check out the photo of our view from our room. Doesn't get any better and the location is great - at the end of Patong beach, so away from the craziness, for the most part anyway.

Sherry, myself, Mary & Laura decided to go for a walk towards the main area and found and stopped at one of the many bars. Sat outside and had a couple of Heinekins after walking and walking. Walked even more and were pretty hungry so stopped at an Irish place for din din. Twas good food - oh Thai food, num, num, frickin num. Walked back home.

Ended up going to bed early cause we were wiped from traveling. Got up nice and early and felt amazing. Popped up to the rooftop for breaky and damn is there ever a nice view. It's a hot one...but it usually is here at this time of the year.

Decided the most activity going to take place today was going to be the beach. Walked across the street, got a lounge chair with matress and proceeded to soak up tha sun. We were catered to as expected. Yeah, really sucks to be here. Grabbed a massage on the beach and fell asleep for the first half. When I woke up Tracy and Tamara had grabbed a chair with us. Wow, was it ever great to see both of them again. Big hugs and happiness.

After having several beverages and huge amounts of laughter, it was decided to do a quick change, hop in a tuk tuk and go to an eatery down near where the gals were staying. Well the laughter just never stopped. With 8 of us enjoying ourselves, we were heard for blocks.

After dinner we checked out the T and T's apartment, the reno's taking place and saw the Aye and Noi. Nice to see them. Again, big hugs and smiles all around. After that, we headed over to Jasmine's Bar. Well she looked pretty tired but was full of smiles and caught a second wind once she saw more familiar faces. More hugs and smiles. Her place is so very small so we ended up taking up a good chunk of it. FUN, FUN, FUN!!! We were all well on our way by this point. The laughter and (now) Dancing just kept going. Her bar filled up in no time and tourists were taking photo's of us like crazy. I don't get it, but whatever, they were having fun and Jasmine was appreciative of all the business.

Ended up calling it a night around 10:30, so Sherry & I grabbed a tuk tuk home. We fell asleep in an instant I'm sure.

The next morning was not so much fun - we were all feeling pretty crappy. Had breaky, coffee and then we decided a good long walk to the new mall with a theater was in order. Kent, myself and Sherry walked there. We missed the first showing of Alien vs Predator 2, so had to kill about 1.5 hours. Wasn't hard. Let me tell you about the theaters here: First off for 600 baht ($12), two people can sit in a plush loveseat at the back with reclining backs and arm rests with room for a soda and whatever snack you want. I'm telling you - you even get to pick which seat you want. Thai's love their king (rightfully so) so at the beginning of the movie after previews and ads, they have a small presentation of him with different photos. You must stand up during this quick clip which is very cool, having never experienced that anywhere else in our travels.

After the movie Kent wanted to get some shopping in so we went to the local day time outdoor market and got some of the stuff he needed. Also found some great carvings and got some pricing. Suggested he shop up in Chaing Mai as it's much cheaper there, not that it's expensive here.

Sherry really needed a rest with a big headache happening and I thought it would be nice to have a power nap too, so that's just what the doctor ordered. After that a quick shower, then she and I headed out on our own to check out some merchandise pricing. Went to an Italian restaurant and had a great dinner.

On the way home we decided to get a foot massage which lasts an hour. They do your feet, legs below the knees, then shoulders and head to finish up the hour. Not bad for $10/each! It was lady boys that gave us the massages and it was very relaxing. They were just wonderfully kind souls. Well, after that we were beat. Ended up coming home, watching a bit of TV, reading and out like a light. Tried to sleep but there was a good party going on at the bar next door, so sleep alluded us for a good part of the night. Will get the ear plugs the next time that happens, so no biggie. It was the piercing scream in the middle of the night - 4:30 - that freaked us out! It sounded distressful, but then silence followed. Yeah, try sleeping after that!! Lights out.
