Last time I posted I was excited, yet pensive about leaving Indy for Australia and ultimately New Zealand. Since then I've had my last day at work, visited Purdue for the last time, and just about packed everything that I'll be taking with me for the next six months. I've also discovered why blogging can be so much fun. This is something that I've never done before, but now that I've started, I find myself attempting to record every exciting thing that's happening to me. It makes things very interesting. I've also found a lot more interest shown in my potential blog then I would've expected, which has been a pleasant surprise.

This past week or so has been very jam packed for me. On Thursday, I had my last day of work at Butt Construction (hahaha, butt). For those that don't know, I got an internship this past summer working for Butt Construction (still funny), who had been hired by the Army Corp. of Engineers to build a new air traffic control tower at Grissom Air Reserve Base just north of Kokomo, IN. When they found out that I had nothing to do in January but twiddle my thumbs, they offered to let me return and work full time again until I left. I happily accepted for both the monetary benefits, because I found it to be fairly enjoyable work, and I really liked the people that I worked with. It's also fun to watch a building be built, I got to watch it go from just foundations to being almost completed.  My last day was a little sad, as between working this whole summer, part time during the fall, and then working all January I'd become very comfortable and used to being around the job site. By the time that I return, the project will be completed. For my last day, Butt Construction bought pizza for everyone on the worksite. Needless to say, the construction workers were happy that I was leaving, since it got them some free pizza and soda. It was a fun way to leave a job that I had learned from and really dug. (get it?)

After my last day of work, I went to Purdue to visit one last time before I left for Australia and New Zealand. It feels weird going to Purdue, with everyone going to classes and worrying about class, teachers and homework while I'm basically enjoying my summer break. For my last dinner at Purdue, I invited some friends to meet me so that I could see as many of my friends as possible before I left. I really enjoyed going out, and seeing all of my different friends eating together, it was a great way to spend my last night at Purdue.

Finally, I forced myself to do what I'd been avoiding as long as possible: packing. It's tricky trying to guess what you'll need for the next 6 months I discovered. Since I'll be traveling throughout Australia for the first two weeks, I didn't want to pack too much, because I'll be carrying it all around with me, and probably on public transportation. I found that putting everything into ziplock or space saver bags really helped out, but even with those, I was barely able to fit everything. It'll make repacking very... interesting.

This is my last post from the states, I leave tomorrow afternoon for Sydney! I'm extremely excited to finally get this trip underway. I will then be dead to the world until Thursday at 7 am Sydney time, or 1 pm Wedensday EST. (that's gonna be a fun flight..)

To follow this blog, there's a link (somewhere on the right, I think?) that you can click on to have this site email you or send you an RSS feed every time I make a new post. Also if you're interested in viewing all of the pictures that I take (not just the best ones that I'll be posting here or on Facebook), I have a link to my Flickr site posted on my profile. As well, there's a link to my Twitter if that's your cup of tea. Finally if you're interested in communicating with me while I'm overseas, feel free to email, or Facebook message me to talk or set up a chance to Skype.
