Well this past week I had a blast hanging out with Mike and Gillian traveling around the country trying to help Mike come to grips with what we know to be called the “human condition”, this crazy rat race we call life on Earth. It was quite an experience once again to watch this product of another culture learn to interact and cope with peoples quirks and foibles without him as yet fully understanding that these conditions exist among our race.

Mike, due to his being raised by a much more advanced race intellectually and in the use of the mind and body, has what we would consider extraordinary powers but that Mike considers common place. I watched him perform as a magician in front of a crowd in a traveling carnival. The tricks that he performed were perfectly executed as well as mystifying but unfortunately he was unable to delve into his audiences imaginations and make them want to believe that what they saw happening before their eyes was real, even though it actually was, they still disbelieved. For you see, or maybe you don’t, Michael at that point was unable to comprehend most emotions that we feel and deal with daily. Love, faith, laughter these were alien things to him at first. The first time he heard a person laugh he thought that they were having a physical attack and about to die. He did not know that that is a normal reflexive action to something that makes a person happy.

Seems funny but I learned from the “Man from Mars” why humans laugh at each other. It is not always out of hate, spite, or malice mostly it is out of a desire not to cry.
