I've returned from Christmas in Canada, which was an absolutely wonderful time. I had a blast with my friends and family and am so glad to have been able to see them again. Plus, it was actually kind of nice to be somewhere where there's snow for Christmas.
Ended up spending a quiet NYE in with one of my flatmates, as I was scheduled to work Dec 31 and Jan 1, basically trouncing any plans I might have wanted to make. Then, on the 3rd, I celebrated my birthday by going out to karaoke with a few friends here in London. Rather quiet and nice.
Today, however, was an entirely different matter. I woke up this afternoon to a message from my UK bank saying to contact them. Turns out, someone had obtained my debit card number and had been using it for fraudulent charges. Lovely. So, thankfully I sorted it out and they'll be sending me a new card and a declaration to sign. This means I'm without a debit card and therefore living on cash for the new week or so while I wait for my replacement card to arrive.
At first, I thought this not so bad, as I would still have my Canadian credit card available for use. Then it occurred to me to check the status of that card, just in case. Good thing I did, as whoever got my UK card info also managed to get my Canadian card info and was attempting to charge the same things to it. (Incidentally, one of the charges they tried to make was to the Ministry of Justice, somewhere I'm certain they've had a long relationship with already.)
Ended up sorting it out with my bank and credit unions in Canada, however I now need to wait for them to mail a card and declaration to my parents and then my parents to mail it to me before I have access to credit again. So now I am completely cardless and utterly reliant on cash from banks for the next little while. Inconvenient, but I'm glad it was at least sorted quickly.
