On Sunday, the storms really set in. High winds, torrential rain, and even 4 foot waves in our anchorage. We were on edge constantly for three days hoping our anchor would hold. Of course, the bridle used to even the strain on the hulls and the anchor slipped a bit, which caused us to need to fix it. This involved moving the anchor chain a bit. Bad News! Our anchor began to drag shortly thereafter. And, as waves mounted, before we realized we were dragging, we threw in another anchor. It held marvelously, but when the time came to pull it out, we knew it would be difficult. As soon as the weather cleared a bit--Wednesday, we pulled the anchor successfully and tried to find a better location. Of course, by afternoon, the winds were kicking up again making it a challenge.
Finally, anchored at a cute little town nearby on Isla Grande, quite the vacation spot. However, we have yet to enjoy it, as the weather kicked up so we stayed put. The next morning, although poised to set out to Porvenir in the San Blas where we would meet our friends the Dariens, the weather was not good. Called the Dariens, who were on their way to the airport. They decided it best to cancel--a good decision, as the weather continues to be very rainy, windy and not conducive to snorkeling in the San Blas.
In fact, we are back in Bocas del Toro now. For how long, we don't know.
