I didnt actually cry as I boarded the plane in Santa Marta, but I was not best pleased, especially as I was passing thru Bogotá (very nice place) without being able to even leave the airport on my way to Lima (not a very nice place). Gutted. One nice thing about it was that I was treated to the spectacular and slightly surreal sight of the Andes' peaks poking up thru the clouds as the sun was setting. Unfortunately I didnt even try and take photos of it, foolishly beli.veing that I might see something worth snapping in Lima.

OK, so the sunset's nice, but to be honest I could have got sunset over the Pacific from anywhere down South America's west coast. My opinion of Lima has not improved since last time I was there.

Clearly suffering withdrawal symptoms, I spent the whole time in lima hanging around with Colombians. Unfortunately the sound one was hardly around so I was forced to spend most of the time with two overweight, middle aged men who spent the whole time trying (with mystifying degrees of success) to hit on the German girl who was also in our hostal. Despite being travel agents, these two had extraordinarilly poor judgement in choosing venues for touristy stuff and all we managed was going on one of those lame open top bus tours (not even of the historic centre!) and visiting an apprently 'beautiful' shopping centre.
