Steve does laundry - 9E for one load wash and dry!
He noticed on a map a street on the with my last name so we have to check it out. It is Via Della Rosa. Via means street. It has a church which you have to call the keeper of the keys to enter - Chiesa di Santa Maria della Rosa. Church honors Gemma Galgani whose casa (house) is also on the street. She volo all amplesso diviono ( flew to/achieved divinity) in 1903. Information about her is on the italian wikipedia site.
The street connects to another street where there is a church called Santa Maria Forisportam
which also honors Beata Gemma Galgani. The church has a neglected meridian transpect (dated 1875) but line on floor is half covered with chairs. The transect was determined by Enrice Pucci. We find a old chart with times and the corresponding hole in the ceiling.
We later climb the Guiniigi Torre (Tower) which has 227 steps. It is unusual in having seven trees on top. It is so clear today, we can see snow capped mountain peaks. Unfortunately, it very crowded which makes me anxious and I'm glad to get down. .
We walk around the ramparts. You can bike around in 20 minutes and I also saw an advertisement for segway rental.
We
went to a free exhibit at the Palazzo Ducale. The title of the
exhibit was 'Mito e Bellezza' (myth and beauty). It included items
that belonged to Napoleon, ship models, drawings, military uniforms,
and the prestigious scarves Maison. The square scarves were unusual
and very well displayed
