Saltburg is a great town. Archeturally interesting and set amongst the mountains with a river running through the town. The only thing we did 'wrong' was buy a Saltburg card. This is a tourist card costing 20 euros that gives you free travel for 24 hours and entry into museums etc free. I say wrong because Ashley and I wanted to get the maximum value out of our card. This nearly killed us.

To start with we didn't activate the card until 3pm on one day. This gave us until 3 pm the following day to see EVERYTHING! The fortress sits above the town so we went there first. Cable car ride to the top and then a trip through the museum with an audio guide. A quick stop to shoot a crossbow. I totally beat Ashley. I got in the target area and Ashley missed the whole board. I had been carrying on so there was a large crowd of people who saw me win.

Then it was back into the centre to see Mozart's birthplace and museum, cathedral and a few other bits. Bus back to hotel and then to bed.

Early start to catch the cable car to the top of the Untersberg, the main mountain in the area. Some climbing on the top and then off to the palace where they have foyntains set up to spray people. They are called trick fountains and were installed by a bishop with a wicked sense of humor.

Then it was back to the centre, lookout, museum a few other bits. Then we just had time to fit in a brewery on e other side of town. Three free beers later and carrying two other free beers we headed back to our hotel.

At 4pm we were back at our hotel, packed and leaving to catch a bus to Vienna. A quick calculation revealed that we had covered attractions and transport priced at 98 euro. Not bad for a 20 euro card.

PS I have included some pictures of our hotel. We were in a 4 bed dorm, the walls were a garish red and all the rooms had these crazy figures to indicate the number. The hotel was a little way put of town in an area like parramatta road.

PPS I had to get my hair cut. After the red hair fiasco in Croatia I am not dying my hair any more and just going grey. But at the moment my hair looks like a small urangutan has died on my head and is outlined in silver grey edging. Not a good look.
