So now we are in Spain. Already the language feels more familiar and you have that lovely soft 'c'. It's like the whole country has a mild speech impediment.

Salamanca is a student town which gives it an energy and optimism. We were only an hour into the town and we had found the tapas bar recommended by our host. Great location overlooking the Plaza Mayor. We had ordered our 'shandys'....... To limit your intake of alcohol they mix lemonade with beer. I have told them that this is what we give children but it is a good way to cut back given the size of the glasses. We order some lovely tapas....chorizo, cheese, some sort of dip and sit and watch the plaza. Some uni student do an impromptu flash dance and the square slowly fills up with the locals.

Tapas are a tasty bite to eat with drinks BEFORE you go out for the main meal at about 11pm. For us they are a tasty meal that doesn't fill you up or break the budget. We watch as the sun sets and they turn on the lights, illuminating the lovely old buildings. We stroll back to our hostel room.

Salamanca is small so it's easy to see the main things......university, cathedral, roman bridge. One of the key things is hidden images in the gothic carvings in the cathedral and the university. Look carefully at the picture of the door of the cathedral. Can you find the astronaut? I have given you the picture....it was much harder to find on the whole cathedral!

We spend a lovely morning and then it is time to move on.......we board the train for Madrid.

Enough of all this travel. Don't you just want to come back to school?
