Pisac, Sacred Valley, Peru

Pisac is a small town about an hour from Cusco, in a beautiful valley called Sacred because apparently the river in the base of the valley follows the path of the milky way above. As a result the Incas modelled their towns architecturally on the animals they saw in star clusters above. So Pisac is shaped like a partridge...apparently. The town itself is 90% tourist market, but the ruins above the town were lovely. The Incans were very keen astronomers, and saw significance in every alignment of the stars, sun and moon. So a large % of the Pisac site was made over to star gazers and their living apartments. Itīs all roofless stonework now, but on the way back down to the town we saw tiny clay boxes built into impossible places into the cliff face. Tombs apparently. The Incas went to great lengths to bury their dead somewhere inaccessible, god knows how.
