Saturday (Oct 13)

I woke up a little nervous and appreensive about the 4 day boat cruise, worried that either the boat or the people on the boat would make the gullet (yacht) cruise less enjoyable. I seemed to share the same worries as the 2 Liz's (those Sydney gals) - so at least we were nervous together.

Once we were on board all my worries were put to rest. The boat was fantastically big and looked reasonably new and the people were all terrific. There ended up being about 10 Aussies, 5 kiwis and 1 guy from New York also. Out of the 10 Aussies, 5 of them (including myself) were from Adelaide.... go Adelaide! Everyone was really nice and friendly and there was a good variety between young and old.

The first day did not involve much much travelling. We stopped for a swim stop neat Oludeniz (a very popular beach nearby to Fethiye) and the water was so blue and warm it was so nice to swim in. What was also really cool was there was an old man and woman making and selling pancakes from their little boat - take a look at the photo! Of course they were expensive but I bought a chocolate and banana one just for the novelty of it and it tasted oh so good. The food on the boat was also terrific - very traditional Turkish food so as always was extremely tasty.

That night there was rain forecast but a group of us wanted to sleep out on the deck anyway and take a chance that it wouldn't rain. Well the chance we took wasn't a good one and it did rain and we did get a little wet but it was all good fun anyway. I am sharing a cabin with the 2 Liz's and I have the top bunk - which I normally wouldn't mind except there was no bar holding me in i rolled off and falling off would mean me landing right on top of one of the unlucky (or maybe lucky?) girls below. So I therefore made sure to sleep right on the opposite edge of the bed for the whole night.

Sunday (Oct 14)

Sunday I woke up to overcast skies and a very cold breeze - unfortunately the weather was forecast to be raining most of the day. The captain changed the days plans so instead of a day of relaxing and frolliking in the water we instead were pretty much travelling the whole day. I made a bad decision to read my lonely planet book and before I knew it I was feeling quite ill (seasick) so ended up taking it easy most of the morning to try and prevent myself chucking my guts up.

For lunch we stopped in the picturesque harbour town of Kas (pronounced "Cash") where I stocked up on roasted chickpeas and checked all my Travelpod fan mail that has been flooding in (not really).

The afternoon involved more travelling (*sigh*) and the wind was so intense I lost one of my t-shirts off the side of the boat that was hanging on a clothelines - damn! About 3 o'clock we pulled into a small cosy harbour near the sunken ruins of Kekova, which we are due to explore tomorrow. So far I am having a fantastic time and am really looking forward to the next couple of days.

Note: Photos from the cruise (which arent too many so far - I spent much time sitting on my arse in the sun) will be posted in the next blog.
