Every Sunday at noon, in the garden of the Victoria Hotel, the locals set off a very loud canon. Julian and I trekked up the hill to catch the show (see the video) - quite impressive!
Then we spent the next few hours getting lost (well not actually, since the area is so tiny) in all the little alley ways in the old part of town. We were looking for the house that Julian's great grandfather was born in. Just as we had decided that it must have been one of the many houses that were washed away in storms, we found it!
We went to The Old Bakery Tearooms for lunch - the building dates back to 1646. We both had toasted sandwiches and coffee cake for dessert - delicious!
We had a lovely Sunday dinner at Ye Dolphin - a small pub in the old part of RHB. They have an awesome menu with lots of delicious sounding choices. We had the Sunday Yorkies - chicken breast and stuffing with mashed potatoes served in a large Yorkshire pudding with vegetables, sooo yummy! Everything we saw being served looked so good - we are definitely going back tomorrow night for their Combo platter, which although a little over our budget, looked so good that we have to have it!
