Sunday 6/27/10

Boy what a long day yesterday, finally arriving at our wonderful base lodging @ 10:03pm.

After making additional weight distribution adjustments (Advanced Stability) we we're finally on the road @ about 08:13. First stop tho, was a post office that provided 24 hour automated flat rate shipments. You know the commercial "If it fits it ships".....Now that I think about it, it would have been far more beneficial maybe to just donate the extra clothes to a local charity and take the tax write off instead of paying the postage that we did. Oh well, live and learn. (We certainly are doing that!)

Today's ride started very nicely with the temps in the low 70's. Forecast showed mild temps, partly cloudy skies, some scatterd thunderstorms with a 30 percent chance of rain. Well, that all would have been fine had we not gotten delayed crossing the border into and out of Canada. Very thorough I might add but oh so ever so slow. I took the opportunity to take scenic photos while creeping along over the bridge into Michigan. In fact a large semi creeped along side us just full of large plumpy pink pigs. The smell was just lovely. I had to laugh when the Captain said oh there goes some Canadian Bacon to the U.S. :)

Back to the weather, remember I mentioned the 30 percent chance of precipitation? Well while we were in line to cross the border we got douse with it. Totally unprepared we hurriedly stopped at the first rest stop to put on our rain gear. (Already wet mind you). It's a good thing that we did for further down the road we we're hit with a fairly large cell containing hail. Have you ever heard hail hit a helmet that you're wearing? Well now I get to say I have. Gotta add it to my bucket list of things done. He he

Well it was another long day yesterday for us arriving Lundington, MI 7pm. Today we board the SS Badger Ferry for a 4 hour ride across Lake Michigan.  We are all looking forward to the down time while the retired former Captain Peter inspects the ship.
