Where I stayed
After stomping around Machu Picchu for a couple days and a seemingly interminable train ride back to Cusco from Aguas Caliente, we caught a great nightīs sleep at this great guesthouse in Cusco called Recolata Turistico before departing for Puerto Maldonado and the Peruvian jungle.
We stayed at Ecoamazonia, which was a pretty killer place. Just the fact that we had to take a boat up the Rio Madre de Dios for an hour and a half to get there was more than enough to sell me on this place. Throw in the fact that we saw tons of monkeys, caimans, and went fishing for piranhas and swimming in one of the Amazonīs feeder rivers and the $190 I laid out for 3 days there was just about the best money Iīve spent.
Plus I got to kick Ericīs arse in ping pong a couple times, which always makes me happy and we drank and explored the jungle with some cool Welsh dudes, one of whom provided great physical comedy by mishandling the rope swing and tumbling down the muddy riverbank into the river.
Hope you enjoy the pics...
