So today we went to Pattaya. This town is famous for its red light district but there's so much more to it than that. There's shotguns too!

We got up pretty late, the chest infection was taking hold now, my breathing was getting painful and there was a tickle in my lungs I didn’t like at all. Still we packed up and headed out of the hotel. We dragged ourselves round to Rat, my girlfriends best friend and she had made us breakfast. I don’t mean a bowl of cornflakes either, this was proper Thai food and everything was delicious. I didn’t even know she could cook. Even Marcin was impressed. So she had kindly offered to let us leave some of our stuff so we could travel light. I have been to Pattaya before, it’s a party town and has a lot of interesting things to see and do, so long as you’re not stupid. We are but we’re not that stupid!

So it was nice to jump back on the bikes. It was the first time I have ridden mine since the clutch went and she ran well. No problems with the clutch at all but the chain has many, many dry links now and is way past its useful life. I’m hoping a good soak in petrol will give it a new lease of life once the dirt and grime has been coaxed out properly. We will see, she’s going to soon get a lot less use in any case. We packed light, Marci just took his top box and I just took my pannier bags. We headed out with plenty of enthusiasm, it was really great to be back on the bikes after a few days off of them. The sun was hot... too hot, sweat poured off me under the weight of my gear, it reached 42 degrees and it felt like it too. The road was familiar and apart from the stationary traffic in Bangkok we made good time. We hit the toll roads though and our first snag. Motorbikes aren’t allowed on motorways. We were stopped by the police who told us this in broken English. We tried to argue that a law intended to stop scooters shouldn’t apply to full size machines but we got nowhere so it obviously wasn’t just a single officer being difficult, it was the law.

So we turned off onto the secondary roads but that was a three lane carriageway and in better condition than we’d seen in weeks of riding so we were still very happy boys. The road went on and the scenery got more familiar and once we finally went into Pattaya town i recognised everything straight away. I spotted a dingy little cabin that served food. We’d eaten there on my first trip to Thailand and it was the best food I had in the whole two weeks. We didn’t stop but it was still cool to see it again. Within a few more minutes we were right in the heart of the town. I took the lead from marcin who still has the only working Satnav and tried to find the place we stayed in last time. It was cheap and really good but the one way system down the backstreets meant I couldn’t get to it. In the end we found a street covered with hotels and rooms and a row of larger motorcycles for rent. I liked the idea of ours being among them and not attracting so much attention. I wandered into the first place we saw and it was cheap, a room was only 10 with free breakfast, Wifi and even free laundry. We saw the rooms and they were fine, we even had a balcony. It was getting later in the day than i thought but that was a good thing with the ferocious sun belting down on us. We decided to have a look around now while it was still relatively tame and then go out to a bar later and have some beers. We wandered around and got something to eat before heading back to stock up on water. That night we headed out.................................. .................Censored...................................................until everything went dark and he just stood there with his mouth open and his eyes were locked open in stunned amazement that they can ....................................................Censored...............................................

So we found a rock bar where an Asian was belting out rock tunes backed by a couple of musicians and they were doing a sterling job. We hung out there and listened to some slightly wrong renditions of famous rock tunes. In all I think the night was basically successful since nobody died and nothing else...........................................................Censored.
