Cherating is a small beach resort on the east coast of mainland Malaysia.  We tried to be clever and get from Sepilok in Borneo to Cherating via KL and Kuantan all in one day, unsurprisingly it all went a little wrong, mainly because it was the weekend and the buses were booked up from KL to the east. In the end we had to spend one night in Kunatan as it was 10pm by the time we got there.

The next day we did arrive in Cherating and negotiated our way into a nice hotel with a pool, what a great deal, or so we thought.  Sadly it turned out that the pool had no loungers, very upsetting for Jemma. The TV only got good reception on one channel and not the one that was going to show England football, very upseting for Tim.  Not a great start, but what about the beach.

The beach was a lovely strip of sand, with the main focus around the obligatory beach bar and also windsurf centre. We decided to do a little more windsurfing to try and hone our skills so hopefully next time we might go out on our own without an instructor. Sadly the windsurfing here did not match the quality of New Zealand or the philosophical tuition in Brazil.  Our instructor gave us tiny boards that we struggled to balance on and then taught us what we already knew before heading back into the beach bar to chat with his mates.

So windsurfing was a bit of a flop so we spent most of our time sun bathing instead! The beach was lovely and quiet and every now and then the ice cream man would ride round oon his moped. Other than that and some kids flying kites, the beaches were often deserted.

We made friends with the lovely woman down the road and went to her every day for breakfast, occasionally we were joined by the cheeky moneky next door who, now and again, got a little over excited! We made the most of relaxing in Cherating and took advantage of the delicious Malay cuisine. Before we knew it we had to go back to Kuala Lumpur for the final stop of our trip - sob.
