Sun, surf and sand were definitely on the menu for Brazil and Jericoacoara was a good place to foot the bill. The only way to access the town is by a 4x4 bus that drives along the beach. We didn't know what to expect as we drove along the sea front for more than an hour with nothing in sight for miles and miles except for endless sand and sea. Eventually, as the sun began to set, we arrived. The town is a small haven with only about four sandy roads, no atm and lots of tourists, a good mix of Brazillians and back packers. There is a giant sand dune where everyone clusters to watch the sunset, donkeys wander the streets and even some shop floors are made of sand. We immediately fell in love with the place.

We managed to find a lovely posada with a large, quirky room overlooking the sea and the most comfortable hammock you can imagine. Heaven. Each morning we rose to a breakfast of fresh mangoes, a cheese and bacon sandwich and cake, which seems to be a morning staple in Brazil. It's a mystery how they stay in such good shape! To burn off some of the cake calories we signed ourselves up for windsurfing lessons. Unfortunately just before we had to start we both ate something dodgy and took turns warming the toilet seat for a few days. This scuppered our ultimate relaxation schedule a little but we still managed to haul ourselves, exhausted, to our windsurfing lessons.

Windsurfing was awesome and after a few spectacular falls we got the hang of it and could windsurf up and down, albeit a little slowly! There was one shady incident where Jem sailed out to sea and couldn't get back again, eventually making it back to shore a little bedraggled. We loved it but it was hard work and we rewarded ourselves with some cocktails on the beach afterwards.

One of our best days here was spent lazing on our balcony watching some wild fluffy faced monkeys playing on the tree in front of us and even jumping onto our balcony itself, cheeky blighters! We could have spent forever here but after five days we were on our way to meet Chunky and Claire to do xmas Brazillian style...
