Finally I convinced Jon that we had enough strength to fly out of Bali (unfortunately not seeing more of the island due to my fading visa). So after 40 minutes in the air, 2 buses, a delay in Probolingo (due to a con-tour agent) and a further hour in a bemo we arrived to the fresh 2000m air of Ceromo Lawang in time for dinner. (Unfortunately I ordered the tomato soup, which, horrifyingly, ended up being a bowel of chopped tomatoes in hot water... fortunately the Gadu-gado was excellent.)

Most people get up around 3.30am in order to get a particular viewing point in time for sunrise, however, the staff at Lava View Lodge knew that blood (theirs) would be spilt if any such crime occurred which involved us. So after a pleasant 8am breakfast Jon & I strolled off to see what all the "Bromo" fuss was about... the views were indeed spectacular - volcanoes amongst arid Mad Max terrain, and Mt Bromo itself steaming sulphur up into our lungs. Certainly worth the effort, though I now believe I've seen sufficient volcanoes to last me for quite some time.

It was at the Prambanan (Hindu) temples outside of Yogy that I felt rain for the first time since leaving Aus 2 months ago (only a light shower at Ayre's Rock). These temples are as interesting as Borobudur (Buddhist temple) which we saw first, however, Jon & I seemed to be as popular for photographs as the temples- posing for numerous photographs from mostly muslim school children, and their teachers...

Wandered a little through the old city, Kraton, including the Sultan's Palace which I found unremarkable. Looking forward to the first class train ride to Jakarta tomorrow.
