The night on the "Ghan" was certainly more enjoyable than the Overland, though the food was still pretty bad (I'm told the Indian Express to Perth is the best). It felt good to see the red earth again as we rolled into Alice, which is now supposed to have a population of 27,000 - I figured they were all on an extended siesta.
Scoring a lift into Yalara was a bonus, not only because we did the 450 k's in 3 hours, but I got to meet Crazy Canadian Pete who was joining up with his other mad buddies from Canada. Seeing the massive Ayer's Rock looming up from more than 50 km's away was just as awesome as my first time here in '87. That night it rained for the first time in over 3 months, and with sun setting behind us, we were blessed with two rainbows over the Rock 20km in front.

I find Ayer's Rock truly majestic, and for me it is a disrespect not to climb it and walk along the top. Walking around the 10km base was also fantastic, apart from the flies, and something that I didn't do the last time I was here.

More Pics soon...
