Today we collected the rental car, and left Sydney at about lunchtime to head towards Canberra. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw the car, it was definitely comfortable enough to spend a few days driving in and more importantly big enough to fit all our stuff in.
We had time to drive at a leisurely pace and took a few turns off on some of the tourist drives. The first place we stopped at was a beautiful lookout point, which you can see from the pictures. We saw loads of wildlife along the way (unfortunately mostly roadkill!), including a couple of wallabies, and a not-so-wild donkey.
We also stopped at the Big Merino, which is basically a big statue of a sheep. You can actually walk up inside the sheep and look through it's eyes, although the view isn't really spectacular.
We arrived in Canberra in the early evening and spent most of it driving around looking for somewhere to sleep. We didn't realise how busy it was going to be and we were lucky to get a hotel room in the end!!
