I arrived into Melbourne at 6.15pm last night after a quick 3.5 hour flight from Auckland. While I am in Melbourne, some Australian friends that I met in London, Jennie and Frank, are very kindly putting me up. They live in the Northcote suburb of Melbourne, which is about 20mins away from the city centre by tram. The tram stop is very conveniently located about 10 metres away from the front door so transport has been pretty easy. They run every 8 minutes, and it costs about 10 pounds for a weekly pass. There is also a train station about 5 minutes walk down to road, with trains heading into the city.

So this morning I hopped on a tram to explore the city centre. I have to say this was a bit of a shock after the cities of New Zealand. Not only is it huge but there are tons of people and tons of traffic. No doubt it was also busier due to the fact that the Grand Prix is being held here over the weekend, and the Commonwealth games have just finished a few days ago.

My first stop was to the information centre in Federation square. Where I picked up lots of information about things to do in Melbourne, and also about day trips out of the city. I then headed off to get a sim card for my mobile, and a look around a few of the shops. I didn't do too much as I wanted to leave some of the city to explore later!
