We got a good early start today. Up early, had breakfast in the restaurant where we were staying (opened at 7:00) and on the road by 7:30. The strangest thing today, was both our wind shields totally fogged up in a "flash" when we were riding, then they would clear up just as fast, then fogged again. There must have been small pockets of dew in the low parts of the road that day. John has decided that he will not buy a windshield any higher than the one he has, as he can just see over the top of it. Anything higher could have been a disaster, as it was impossible to see through the fogged up windshield. It was quite cool in the morning but warmed up quite nicely by 10:00 a.m..
We rode West on Hwy #17 and finally made it to the Manitoba border where another visitor was kind enough to take the official photo of the two of us. We stopped at the Tourist Information booth and had a midday snooze under the shade of a tree. We then continued West on Hwy #1 where we were able to maintain a steady 105 Km per hour on the bypass around Winnipeg. Then we joined Hwy 16 North, the Yellowhead Highway, just after Portage la Prairie. We would spend the next two days on this highway.
We pulled in to the very sleepy town of Gladstone Manitoba to find a restaurant. There didn't appear to be any, so John asked two young ladies walking down the street if they could suggest somewhere to eat. They were waitresses at the local hotel and recommended the Gladstone Hotel. So in we went as the two strangers in a room full of farmers who watched every move we made. After the meal was over they seemed to follow us out of the restaurant and then the interest and questions about the bikes began. We left Gladstone with a feeling of having made some new friends, but we weren't sure when we first arrived ! !
After twenty minutes of riding we arrived in Neepawa and spent the night at a great campground run by the local Lions Club
We seemed to have "horse shoes" because the weather has been fantastic again. Bob learnt something about John but was pre-warned about this. John can snore like the best, and he starts about 5/10 minutes after he is horizontal. Fortunately for Bob he had some ear plugs which worked fine. Bob didn't think that he would have got any sleep last night it he hadn't had the ear plugs. We had a long day of riding but no complaints; love it. We ended our ride today at 8:30 p. m.. We called home to let everyone know that we were fine and hear how things were back home with our families.
